Dr. Barton is an associate professor at Western University, Division Chief of Infectious Diseases, Children's Hospital, LHSC and an Associate Scientist at Lawson Research Institute. She is the Chair of the Canadian Paediatric Society’s Infectious Disease and Immunization Committee, and a liaison member of the American Academy of Pediatric’s Committee on Infectious Diseases and a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. As an executive member of the Paediatric Investigators’ Collaborative Network on Infections in Canada (PICNIC)  she has participated in several multicentre studies. She is the recipient of numerous awards including   2024 Dean’s Award of Excellence for her outstanding Community service ,  Physician Leadership award, Paediatric “Chair’s award” for stellar service in the COVID-19 Pandemic where under extreme staffing crises , she and her team kept the local and regional Infectious Diseases programs efficiently running. She is the 2024 winner for the national Paediatric Society's  Danielle Grenier award that recognizes  a member with outstanding contribution to the Society.
