About

Dr Avanthika Chaithanya is an ECFMG-certified incoming Pediatric PGY1 at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (NYC Health and Hospitals: Elmhurst).


She loves working with children! She fell in love with Pediatrics as a subject ever since her first rotation at med school and is highly passionate towards child healthcare and health equity. She is actively seeking and pursuing opportunities in the field of pediatrics.


Dr Avanthika enjoys working on academic research in her spare time. Having published 30+ indexed papers with over 100 citations in Pediatrics and Primary Care Medicine, she co-founded "The Otto Research Initiative", a nonprofit organisation that teaches and mentors International Medical Students and Graduates in basic research skill sets and projects. She founded the "KIMS Scientific Society", in her alma mater Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli, to encourage young medical students to step into the field of research.


Dr Avanthika volunteers with various NGOs and organisations like Rotary International and Red Cross to help and serve underprivileged children. She conducts menstrual hygiene talks for young girls to spread menstrual awareness, and free health camps for children of all ages in rural areas of Bangalore, India, to ensure accessible health care for all. She founded a support line called "The Safe Space" which is a free online mental health helpline for children and adolescents globally, run by healthcare professionals. She is also currently functioning as the Head of Operations for "Gowramma Rama Rao Charitable Trust", a nonprofit organisation which helps with free housing and educational opportunities for underprivileged students and children in Bangalore, India.
